News that Skills for Life tutors at the Isle of Wight College are at risk of redundancy was posted on the VB Discussion Forum last night by forum member, Mojo.
‘Mojo’ stated that the first staff knew of the possible redundancy was when they received a letter (delivered by Royal Mail last Saturday, 30th October).
Not surprisingly, many were upset at the way in which they were notified.
College confirm reorganisation
We spoke with Isle of Wight College this morning, who confirmed that letters had been sent out as as part of a formal process and the first stage in the reorganisation of the Skills for Life (SfL) courses.
Stephen Lamdin, Director of Finance at the College told VB, “The college is trying to find a more efficient and effective way to deliver the Skills for Life service and this means looking at the number of staff we employ.”
Hope to re-deploy staff
He went on to say that group meetings would commence shortly with SfL staff, with a 30 day consultation starting from the date of the meeting.
Although the Skills for Life courses will be reorganised to be delivered in a slightly different way, Mr Lamdin went on to say that the college hoped to be able to re-deploy all SfL tutors in the college.
Update 11.51am: The college have asked us to point out that provision to learners of the Skills for Life courses will not be affected.
