In case you hadn’t read through the notes from the Town Council meeting last night, the South Wight Housing Association development which is planned for the site in Pound Lane was discussed yesterday.
The development which will comprise three storeys with 21 flats and house up to 60 people, replaces the old coaching garage on the corner of Pound Lane at the entrance to Somerfield’s Car Park.
Apparently work will start in just under two weeks time with the first job being the removal of the roofing.
Once this has happened, the rest of the building will be demolished by Ryde Demolition and this is planned for between 3 and 17 March. We’re informed that the road will be closed during this period but that access to the Somerfield Car Park and Pound Lane Car Park will not be affected.
It is hoped that the building will be completed about this time next year.
Mark reported that there has been some concern bats may be nesting in the derelict property and therefore a wildlife expert was due to visit the site today to assess the situation. [Image courtesy of CAD Delta]
