Adam Extance, currently side-lined from speedway after sustaining a serious knee injury, is to join My First Skid’s training team as the school starts to unearth and train tomorrow’s Warriors.
He joins Gary Ball and Andy Perring in the growing team supporting the Wightlink Warrior’s promotion’s ambition to identify and develop speedway talent.
Adam, aged 23, who himself came to a My First Skid training school held at Scunthorpe said,
“As I am currently not riding due to injury, the opportunity for me to help out at My First Skid is a great thing.
“Former rider Aiden Collins and his dad got me into riding speedway and started my career off and now because of this, I feel well positioned to know the value of speedway schools for without them I would have never been able to do what I love.
“If I can help pass on some of that to others then that’s a major satisfaction to me as I love speedway and helping the My First Skid trainers will help me keep mentally strong for my own return to racing.
“My Dad and I run the Mick Extance Kawasaki experience where we teach people day in day out how to ride Enduro, so it’s amazing that I can now link racing and coaching in together and I’m really looking forward to getting everything started and watching pupils improve on the track at Smallbrook.”
Adam started riding motorcycles at a very early age and you could say it was in his blood for his grandad raced on the grasstrack circuits and dad Mick, after becoming a world champion in the Enduro discipline of competitive motorcycling, became a regular participant in the Paris Dakar rally.
Warrior’s co-boss Barry Bishop said,
“My First Skid is an integral part of our strategy for Speedway on the Isle of Wight and it is great to see it gaining support from not only the Island and south coast but within the speedway community.
“I have followed Adam’s career with interest and I have spoken with him in depth about our ambitions for My First Skid, which he fully supports and I am sure that Adam will fit right in to the My First Skid team and keep himself active within speedway until he’s fully fit to return to racing.
“Martin Widman and I look forward to him joining the team where he will be able to pass on some of his considerable speedway and motorcycle skills to our students.”
