This update from Bryn on behalf of the Wightlink Islanders Speedway team. Ed
Eager to quickly erase their nightmare defeat at Stoke on Saturday, the Wightlink Islanders will be looking for a handsome victory over not only the weather gods and the King’s Lynn Young Stars at Smallbrook tonight.
Hopefully the rain will stay away from the Island and allow this National League match to go ahead at the usual start time of 7.30pm with team managers Chris Hunt and Kevin Shepherd naming a full strength side.
Better showing than Saturday
Both of them are expecting, and indeed demanding, a much better showing from their side tonight than they put up at Stoke on Saturday when, in less than ideal conditions it has to be said, they were beaten by 58 points to 37.
On paper it should be a comfortable home victory for us tonight with the King’s Lynn Young Stars currently bottom of the league table, but it should be borne in mind that they have only ridden four matches so far this season, only one of which has been on their own Norfolk Arena circuit.
With ex-Islander Brendan Johnson in their line up tonight, they will no doubt be eager to show that we were wrong in releasing him.
That will add extra spice to tonight’s affair and hopefully fans will turn out in force to cheer the Wightlink Islanders onto victory and move them up Into third place in the National League table.
