Thanks to Bryn for this reminder of another race at Smallbrook Stadium tonight. Ed
Boosted by their emphatic 55-37 home league victory over Scunthorpe on Tuesday, the Wightlink Islanders are in KO Cup action at Smallbrook Stadium tonight, when they entertain runaway league leaders Dudley Heathens and face the oh-so-difficult task of pulling back a 28 point deficit from the away leg.
And if that isn’t a difficult enough task, they will have to go into the meeting without skipper Danny Warwick who is still feeling the effects of his crash in Tuesday’s home league victory over Buxton.
Racing again ex-Islander
Ex-Wightlink Islander Brendan Johnson, who is riding for King’s Lynn this season, deputises and whilst pulling back such a huge deficit to win through to the next round of the competition might well prove impossible for our team tonight, they are most certainly focussed on battling for every single available point and, well stranger things have happened eh?
At the very least there’s a burning desire within our camp for the Wightlink Islanders to at least do everything possible to ensure that they win tonight’s 15 heat match and thus become the first team in the country to beat their Black Country opponents this year! Again that won’t be easy but who knows!
