Sport Relief Set To Hit Shanklin and Sandown

Thanks to Kelly for this reminder about the YMCA Sport Relief event planned for 25th march. In her own words. Ed

Sport Relief MileThe Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Shanklin and Sandown is just two weeks away and Sunday 25th March is set to be an unforgettable day. Loads of local people have already signed up, but there’s still time to bag your place!

Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of something amazing – enter the Mile at www.sportrelief.com or alternatively enter on the day. The YMCA, who are hosting the mile have just increased the number of available places, so that no one will miss out on this fantastic opportunity to raise funds for a great cause.

What, where, when
Setting off from Welcome Beach (near Little Stairs Point) the Shanklin Sandown Mile will take in the breath taking sights beyond Sandown Bay.

There are three challenges to choose from: the 1 mile Beachcomber Bound along the flat revetment to Sandown Pier, the 3 mile Dinosaur Dash to Yaverland, or the daring 6 mile Charles Pelham Challenge which includes an off-road trail to Culver Down and back to Yaverland. Participants can choose their own distance and can complete it in any way they fancy.

From teeny tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock, there’s something for everyone on the big day.

Raising cash for an incredible cause
Jack Currie, who has volunteered to help organise the event said, “The Shanklin Sandown Mile is set to be an amazing event. It’s fantastic that so many people from the Island are gathering together to show their support for Sport Relief 2012. Please enter the Shanklin Sandown Mile today and join the rest of the nation to raise plenty of cash for an incredible cause!”

Registration on the day will be at YMCA Winchester House, Shanklin where car parking and changing room facilities are available.

Even if you decide not to take part in one of the challenges, you can bring along friends and family anytime between 9:30am-3:30pm to enjoy the atmosphere from Winchester House where there will be entertainment, refreshments, and a scrumptious barbecue on offer.

Please do come along to help cheer on the participants too!

What does Sport Relief support?
All the money raised by the public will help people living unimaginably tough lives right here on our doorstep, across the rest of the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries.
