St Francis Catholic and Church of England Primary School in Ventnor had their grand opening ceremony today.
It was an opportunity for invited guests to take part in guided tours of the building before sitting down to celebrations led by the pupils in the main hall.
Having watched the demolition of the former middle school and construction of the new buildings in its place, we were eager to see inside and were not disappointed. What we saw was highly impressive.
Considered design
The new school benefits from a modern design, with wonderful natural light filling every area. There are fantastic views of the beautiful surrounding countryside from all classrooms and corridors.
Young pupils are based on the lower sections of the school, whilst older pupils have their own areas on the higher ground and all congregate in the bright main hall for assemblies and lunch.
The facilities seem to be carefully thought out, with each classroom having access to outside space for learning and play. Pupils have use of the adjacent sports hall, as well as a large playing field and astro-turfed area.
The overall feeling of the school was of a happy and healthy environment. Well done to all involved.
Our thanks to year 4/5 pupils Harriet and Arthur, who did a great job of showing us around.
