The St Lawrence 9th well dressing is on display at the moment and follows the theme of Steam At Ventnor.
As we’re sure you’ll agree from the photo gallery below, the latest well dressing looks fantastic.
The process for creating these masterpieces (the ones we’ve seen in Whitwell in the past have also been outstanding) is very time consuming and intricate.
This year’s well dressing depicts a steam train entering Ventnor’s railway station through the tunnel from Wroxall.
It was chosen as a tribute to those Islanders who, 40 years ago founded the Isle of Wight Steam Railway at Havenstreet.
A notice next to the well dressing tells us …
Following the end of the steam in December 1966, only a few relics from the Island’s once extensive 55 mile network of railway lines and stations were salvaged. Havenstreet started with only one steam locomotive, an assortment of rolling stock and odd bits of equipment.
Now 40 years on, the line has been tripled in length and has an award-winning collection of historic locomotives and rolling stock. Thanks to those few enthusiasts, adults and children can enjoy steam train journeys on the Island to this days.
We are very proud of our I.W. Steam Railway
We’d highly recommend you pay a visit to see this masterpiece in person. You can find it in Pelham Woods, St Lawrence.
