Andrew (Stan) Baker has set himself a challenge and a half next month. He’s planning to walk ten miles across Isle of Wight hills in high heels.
Himself a former serviceman, Stan works with ex-forces personnel through the Royal British Legion (as a Caseworker).
He says the idea for the walk came after he and a few friends and clients were enjoying a beer watching the Invictus games.
Stan said,
“Normal inter-corps rivalry resulted in various boasts being made about our physical prowess and after a few hours of banter, the result is the challenge I foolishly made.”
Three charities to benefit
Raising money for the charities Combat Stress, British Limbless ex servicemen’s Association and the Poppy Appeal, Stan will be walking from Ryde Pier to the Bestival site at Robin Hill on Saturday 10th September.
Stan went on to add,
“The high heel bit comes from wanting to do something different, which women will hopefully appreciate. It was also in the news that day about women being forced to wear high heels as part of their job brief.”
Press up for Vets
As part of Stan’s training, he’s also committed to doing 22 press up a day for 22 days to highlight the number of US veterans who take their lives daily.
Show your support
You can support Stan’s ten miles in heels challenge by popping over to the Just Giving page he has set up.
You’ll also see donation tins in various shops around the Island over the next month. If you aren’t able to donate online you can pop your cash into the tins and Stan will ensure the monies are shared among three forces charities.
