Police are warning people to be aware of thieves trying to sell stolen goods after a burglary was reported in Freshwater on the Isle of Wight.
The break-in is believed to have taken place at a garage in the Copse Lane area between 9.30pm on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 and 2.30pm on Thursday, May 19, 2011.
Approximately £2,700 worth of goods was reported stolen, including 180 bottles of wine, and frozen steak and pork. Officers are continuing several lines of enquiry including forensics.
Investigating officer PC Adam Brown of the Isle of Wight’s Targeted Patrol Teams (TPT) said: “It is possible the people responsible for this burglary are trying to sell the meat and wine second-hand to restaurants and hotels as this would provide a way to dispose of the stolen property. I would urge people employed in these businesses to be vigilant and contact police if offered the chance to buy any wine or frozen meat, which they consider suspicious.
“We’re also interested in hearing from anyone who may seen or heard people acting suspiciously with a vehicle in the Freshwater area over the past fortnight.”
