Supermarket’s Community Budget encourages healthy eating

Tanya shares this latest news from Sainsbury’s. Ed

St George’s School has received a donation of gift cards from Sainsbury’s Isle of Wight store in Newport, which helped to fund healthy eating ingredients.

The donation was made possible through the store’s Community Budget.

At St George’s School we use mid-morning snack times as important opportunities to develop healthy lifestyles and independent living, through students making healthy choices as to the content of their snacks and taking responsibility for preparing their own snacks and developing the relevant skills to do this.

With the donation we have been able to provide classes with fresh fruit and vegetables for snack times along with some other healthy snack items.

In Food Technology lessons and the 6th form options Hospitality group students have been exploring making snacks from fruit, such as fruit salad and fruit smoothies.

Haven’t seen anything of this guy, he isn’t available on Twitter or Facebook and I suspect has given up already. Would like to know his view on cruel “blood” sports but hasn’t shown his hand on that either although I know Andrew Turnip is Pro Hunting and Jill Wareham isn’t but sadly her leader is planning a serious and unnecessary Badger Cull.Research shows that culling is more… Read more »

Mark isn’t much of a Facebook or Twitter kind of person! But he and his campaign are very much in evidence, in person, on street stalls every weekend, at Hustings, on Ventnor Blog, in the County Press, on IW Radio, in his leaflets (one has been delivered to every household via Royal Mail and tens of thousands of others delivered by hand right across the Island). He… Read more »

I really would love to vote for Mark – he is clearly the best candidate for the Island. I am really worried that if I do that my vote will be wasted as the majority will vote Conservative and many more vote Lib. I really don’t know what to do for the best. I will be really disappointed if Andrew Turner is elected again.

Jenny, you need to get out more. I can’t seem to visit anyone (its part of my job) without falling over Mark or one of his legion of helpers spreading the message that only Isle of Wight Labour people speak any sense when it comes to standing up for the Isle of Wight. Its just a shame we haven’t got more like Mark, Geoff Lumley and Deborah… Read more »

There are some very good Labour activists on the
IoW I do wish the working class would stop thinking they are Tories because they have a 40 inch TV set.

Get out and vote for who you feel is best for you.

I am a life long member of the League Against Cruel Sports. I have no objection to culling, if a fox is being a nuisance shoot it. Mark comes over has the best public speaker of the lot. He knows what he is talking about, has done his homework and is not afraid to leave the party line and give you the facts has they are. He… Read more »

A facebook group has been set up for Mark (although it’s not official).

People can find it here and show their support for an honest politician who’s not intimidated by the Party Whips (as the other two ‘main’ candidates seem to be): http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=116814241677710&ref=ts

Mark is also supported by the Labour Representation Committee as far as i am aware, which means he is REAL Labour and interested in issues relevant to ordinary people. That is good enough for me.

Very nice bloke Mark, a good alternative to Turner if you don’t want to vote Tory.

Mind you, a vote for him is also an endorsement of 13 years of Labour failure, incompetence and lies.

Try and picture Mandy or Tony as you hold the pencil above the ballot paper, I dare you! Do that and you certainly wouldn’t vote Labour.

Mr Justice! They have all been at it. If the Tory Party get in and that’s not a certainty. God help us and just watch all the rich get richer and the poor…You get the drift. Far too many MPs from all parties have been guilty of fraud – I’ll wager not one will go to jail, it’s a fair bet that none will be prosecuted. They… Read more »

This man would be best to represent us in parliament in my opinion but there’s too much of a retired blue rinse brigade down here so I got to vote Jill as a favour to Mark. Hopefully a hung parliament and another chance in a few yrs when more people tune into common-sense qualities.

My bet is on Brown still being PM and your argument dead, all be it with help

If the Tories can’t beat this Government then they will never be fit too

Also they haven’t made such a mess as people imagine. Apart from global circumstances they have done a pretty good job. People are being conned by media who misrepresent things and allow themselves to forget how bad things were when they came to power. The reason Mark should get a low vote, more than anything else, is that he cannot compete with the tories here and the… Read more »

Mark is old Labour? What is his opinion on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? Has he been able to discuss or campaign on these issues? It was prohibited by the main parties but has he had the courage to buck the trend?

Only the Lib/Dems were against the wars. MARK CHIVERTON has been up-front on every issue. Even speaking out against the Party line. He is most certainly the most informed and most capable of all the candidates and his speeches are by far the best of the bunch. The best candidate to represent the interest of the ISLE OF WIGHT people – Forget Westminster, we know is will… Read more »

As has been pointed out, Turner abstained from voting for or against the war. He might have been anti it, but he still did as he was told like a good boy and towed the party line. It’s a sad fact, but many of the Tory party (and those that fund them) have made money out of the war (weapons, oil, media, medicine). The only one of… Read more »

Despite the massive opposition shown to wars sadly all leaders would continue the war in Afghanistan. Gordon Brown specifically singled out Iran and North Korea for future attention. Clegg claimed that his wars would be making Britain a force for good. Cameron said that his wars would be fighting for the national interest. Many of our young soldiers will be killed nearly 500 already killed in Iraq… Read more »
