Free Food in Sandown - food outside the shop1

Team who help feed those in need are taking a short break, but not before preparing to feed others over the holidays (updated)

Free Food in Sandown (FFIS) is a charitable organisation that seeks to help feed those in need.

Founded by local hero, Dott, ‘Free food in Sandown, D.I.D.D.I. Lake Centre’ is a charity shop and cafe where the money raised is used to help feed the homeless and those who have fallen on hard times. They cover, Shanklin, Lake, Sandown and Ryde.

Supporting those sleeping rough or in hostels this Christmas
Dott told News OnTheWight that as there are lots of plans to help young families with children this Christmas, FFIS is directing their support to those who are sleeping rough or are in hostel accommodation, neither of which have cooking facilities.

She said,

“We aim to provide as many pre-cooked Christmas dinners/desserts and with the help of Outreach get them delivered on Christmas Eve. If possible a sandwich and some mince pies for Boxing Day.

“We are also hopefully providing vouchers from Aldi to go with this meal, so those in need can get food over Christmas and New Year while we are closed (something we don’t usually do).

“We will be doing the usual crisis boxes to people who get in touch but delivery days will be restricted due to our closed days.”

Closed for a short break
Open 10.30am to 4pm on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays, the team who have worked non-stop for the last two years through the Covid Pandemic are now in need of a small break, so please note the times below when they will be closed over the holidays.

  • Closed: 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th December
  • Open: 29th, 30th and 31st December
  • Closed: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th January

Visit the shop
If you are passing through Lake, why not stop and visit the shop. They have wrapping paper and plenty of good quality jewellery that could work well as Christmas gifts.

Dott finished by saying,

“We will do our best to ensure food is distributed as quickly as possible and would like to thank you for your patience and support.

“Food donations are always welcome.”
