Ten-day road closure in Ryde for highway reconstruction work this September

A road on a popular through-route in Ryde is set to be improved this month (September) and motorists are being advised of diversions that will be in place.

Argyll Street will be closed to through traffic between Argyll Place and West Street for a period of ten days from 9th September 2024 for highway reconstruction work by Island Roads.

Closed for ten days
A letter has been sent to residents and affected businesses advising them of the closures, which will be in operation 24-hours a day for safety reasons.

On street parking will also be suspended during the works, with affected residents being advised to find alternative parking nearby.

Where and when
The roadworks themselves will take place between 7am and 5pm each day and with local diversions signposted along Pellhurst Road, Ratcliffe Avenue and West Street.

HGVs going eastbound through Ryde will divert along Queens Road then via Union Street, Esplanade and East Hill Road while those going west through Ryde will be diverted via West Street and Queens Road.

Pedestrian access and access for emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works.

“We would like to thank you in advance for your assistance”
An Island Roads spokesperson said,

“We recognise that these improvement works may cause some inconvenience for residents and businesses, but we hope any disruption will be offset by the long-term improvements we are making.

“We would like to thank you in advance for your assistance in enabling us to complete these works.”
