The Lollipop People: A Must See Show

If you’re at all interested in art, or people on the Isle of Wight producing art, do yourself a favour and make a visit to The Depozitory in Ryde either today (until 4pm) or during the rest of this week.

Lisa Traxler at Lollipop People:Joanne Hummel-Newell (who used to be the exhibitions organiser at Quay Arts) has brought together some great Island artists in a show called ‘The Lollipop People‘ in the building’s basement.

We went along yesterday and were impressed by the high quality of all of the work.

Standing out
There’s also some real standout examples which we felt were topped by Teresa Grimaldi’s installation in one of the back rooms, expanding on her work with hand-puppets. The rough edges of the room really enhancing it.

On the top floor of the building you can also marvel at a hand-crafted wooden tricycle that Daniel Roberts designed, built and rode to Spain. You can follow the trail from his kitchen table, along a meandering route illustrated by photos taped to the floor.

The shows are part of the Ryde Arts Festival the events of which last all week.
