The Waxworks Play IW Radio

The Waxworks Play IW RadioLast Sunday night, The Waxworks were invited as guest band onto Glynn Taylor’s Live and Local show on IW Radio. Sadly we missed the show and if you did too, but are keen to hear how it went, the Waxwork drummer has sent us this report below. Ed

So, IW Radio Sunday Night, what comes from nearly 20 years messing around trying to sound like My Bloody Valentine & The Cramps, the world were about to hear us for the first time (apart from the people that went to the Wight Trash Transitions CD launch party).

Waiting outside the studio was Heather from Hugo Frusslinky who volunteers each week for Glynn’s show (she’s after a job people, listen up), she’s cool, really enthusiastic and knows what she’s talking about, good band as well, we were talking about maybe doing a Halloween party … watch this space.

Glynn is very pro at what he does, he’s lucky in the fact that he gets to play anything from the bands that have played the Festivals and Bestivals over the years (weathers a strange thing innit? fingers crossed for next year, Bestival rocks and we wanna play next year please Mr Da Bank).

Anyway … was loving hearing ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’ by the Bunnymen, Liam G’s backing vocals make that song. We had a friendly chat, trying to answer the unanswerable question “what is your sound?”.

The Waxworks at Transitions Launch Party

Really, really hard to answer as it starts with Robert Johnson through Sarah records, says hello to the Small Faces and ends up at Ladyhawke, but I know what some people might say.

Scott’s answer to “where did you get your name from?” was genius!

So … into ‘Little Mary’ (click play below to listen). [audio:http://otw-audio.s3.amazonaws.com/the-waxwork-little-mary.mp3]

We’d changed the intro and chorus so it would be more Radio Friendly, it sounds more Spectoresque/Just like Honey which isn’t a bad thing.

Glynn was having a right laugh with our Wem Copycat, echoing like mad through his headphones, a small vocal problem (which seems to haunt us when we play anywhere) though it was the first time a band had gone ‘electric’ in the studio, on listening back it sounded cool as.

More chat and good questions, including an embarrassing story about when we went to see Black Lips play last week in London and three guys walked up to us and said “aren’t you the drummer in the Waxworks?”

Mad. Into ‘The Lord Song’ (click play below to listen) … and that was it, grinning our faces off, gone, it was fun. [audio:http://otw-audio.s3.amazonaws.com/the-waxworks-the-lord-song.mp3]

Looking forward to the future now, the old songs are going to bed for a while, and we’re gonna write a whole pile of new ones. One of these is called ‘Kim Gordon on 14th Street’ which is one of the coolest song titles I’ve ever heard. Another sounds like a train steaming all down the line, and we wanna pull off a garage party song.
