Yesterday afternoon we popped into Quay Arts to meet up with some very special young people.
The five, known collectively as The Young Curators (pictured right), were selected from a variety of schools across the Island to be involved in the project.
They’ve been working under the guidance of Island artist, Tim Johnson and Quay Arts’ Exhibitions Organiser, Georgia Newman.
Involved at every stage
After making it through the selection process, the young people set about creating a brief and launching an open competition for 13-19 year olds.
One of the aims of the project was to show those involved every aspect of putting on an exhibition and it certainly sounds like that’s been achieved.
The five have taken care of all the marketing of the competition through social media as we as traditional methods and they’ve even had to make decisions as to which entries made it into the exhibition.
Public preview and prizegiving
When we caught up with the team, they were in the middle of sorting and hanging the artworks ready for the grand opening in The West Gallery this weekend.
A public preview takes place from 2pm on Saturday to which all are invited. There’ll also be a prize-giving taking place at 3pm when prizes and awards will be presented to the winning entries.
The young curators we spoke to were Bonnie Szatter, Annie Leonard, Charlotte Billson, Ollie Tubb and William Pankhurst.
