Three Rescued From Overturned Catamaran

Thanks to Mark for sharing details of this callout at the weekend. Ed

On Sunday 8th April at 15.38 Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat was paged by Solent Coastguard to 999 calls that people were sat on an upside down sailing catamaran ¾ of a mile off shore in Sandown.

Catamaran overturned:The lifeboat was launched and made its way to the catamaran; there were three people on board and all OK.

We tried several times to get the boat upright, but found the hulls had filled with water making it very difficult.

We eventually got the sail down and got it upright and escorted it back into shore to Yaverland where the Bembridge coastguard team took over.

We would like to thank the public who made the 999 calls as those who needed rescuing could have been out there for a lot longer and would have suffered from the effects of the cold.
