Near the end of the afternoon on Friday, On the Wight reader Mark Lansbury was walking down the High Street in Newchurch when he noticed an articulated lorry turning down Palmer’s Lane (single track road with width restriction).
“This I had to see,” he told us, so he followed and lo and behold, found the lorry stuck on Skinner’s Lane.
In the for the long haul
About five hours later he got back in touch to say that Palmers Lane/Skinner’s Lane was still closed with a police van blocking Palmers Lane at the High Street in Newchurch.
Apparently, two Barletts tow trucks had been sent to recover the articulated lorry. When the smaller tow truck failed, the larger one was sent in.
Mark said that width-restriction sign was obscured by overgrowth, perhaps being the reason for the wrong turn?
Hopefully the lorry has since been moved, but we’re waiting to hear back from the Highways Dept for official confirmation.
Update: The Council advise that the road was re-opened later that night.
