Headline sponsor
We are very grateful to Wightlink who are the headline sponsor and share our vision that the IW can host one of the best events in Europe. Visit Isle of Wight are also sponsoring the event and have been invaluable with their support.

The tournament aims to elevate the profile of chess on the Isle of Wight and beyond, making it a key destination for chess aficionados. We aim to attract around 250 players and then grow into a larger annual event and a great boost for local businesses.

A resurgence in the UK
Chess is enjoying a resurgence in the UK and globally, we are seeing more and more people taking to the sport. The popularity of chess has soared, partly due to the rise of online platforms and successful media portrayals, such as the acclaimed Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit.

The Isle of Wight Chess Masters aims to capitalise on this momentum, providing a platform for both emerging talent and established grandmasters.
