Totland Post Office saved from closure thanks to community and council support

Isle of Wight Conservative MP, Bob Seely, has called on Island communities to support their local Post Offices saying it’s a case of “use them or lose them”.

He said,

“There are a lot of people who rely on local post offices services, especially for cash withdrawals. These services are hugely important to those people who don’t use online banking and it’s very much a case of use them or lose them.

“We nearly lost the Totland branch last month but thankfully, with the support of Community Action Isle of Wight and Totland Parish Council, the Post Office has been able to remain open in the town.”

Toyne: It’s the hub of the community really
Mr Seely recently dropped by Totland Post Office to meet the postmistress, Lisa Toyne, and to see how things were going.

Lisa said,

“It was great to chat to Bob when he popped by. He was interested to know about the services we offer and how the community use us.

“Most of our customers come in to use the cash deposit and withdrawal service, but they also use us to deposit cheques, tax their vehicles and return parcels.

“When people come in, they also often like to chat about what’s going on in the village, it’s the hub of the community really.”

Seely: It’s a really valuable service
Bob said,

“I’m really pleased that the Totland Post Office is still serving local residents. It’s a really valuable service.

“I am challenging Royal Mail about their charging policy for collecting the mail which I believe is damaging for the Post Office and its customers. I hope to hear back from them soon.

“I would encourage all Islanders to use their local post offices so that we can keep them serving local communities for many more years to come.”

Totland Post Office is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 1pm and is closed at the weekend.
