Transition Island Launch A Success

Transition Island Launch A Huge SuccessLast night saw the launch of the Transition Island initiative at the Riverside Centre in Newport. 60+ people turned out – a very encouraging number for the first meeting.

It was interesting to see that there was a really wide range of people there, which also spanned the age spectrum – each bringing their own valuable experience and areas of expert knowledge. One thing uniting them was the desire to start planning for a better, more sustainable future.

While the initial focus was concerns with quite how people would live their lives without an oil supply – which has been floated as close as 5 years away – the group discussions opened up to the wider range of subjects. Lots of good, positive ideas came out, which are being summarised and published on VB.

One of the themes discussed was involvement with local politicians and it was thought that there’s a serious opportunity for David Pugh to lead the Island to be a shining example of what could be achieved.

A number of people volunteered to be involved with the steering committee that is in the process of being formed.

We caught up with Vav Simon after the event to get her impressions of the event. [audio:http://otw-audio.s3.amazonaws.com/Vav-Simon-First-Transition-Island-Meeting.mp3]
