At the beginning of the week’s Ventnor Town Council meeting, during the 15 minutes allocated for public questions, a representative from the Undercliff Gardens Action Committee read out the following statement to the Councillors. Ed
Could I ask that the Town Council put on record the sincere thanks of members of the Undercliff Gardens Action Committee for the support of the vast majority of Town Councillors in our three year battle against the unwelcome and to date, unapproved, development at 3A Undercliff Gardens.
The unwavering support of the late Brenda Lawson and the Lady Mayor of Ventnor at the Development Control Hearing on 29 January contributed greatly to the unanimous 13 votes to zero rejection of the proposal at 3A Undercliff, despite the formidable support for the proposal by two of the most senior council officers.
Due to the relentless pressure residents exerted upon the Local Planning Authority one of those officers is now leaving his post and the other has undergone a very serious disciplinary hearing.
With the anticipated dismissal of the latest appeal by the developer, UGAC hope that it can be recorded in the minutes that residents groups, supported by their elected Town and Parish Councillors can change the course of such unwelcome developments and will continue to do so in the future and that the handful of supporters of this developer and his plans will at last acknowledge the futility of their continuing support.
