Brave Island, which offers free creative opportunities for 14 to 25-year-olds on the Isle of Wight every week, have just announced some of their biggest opportunities to date.
Applications are currently open for a £1,000 commission to create a public art installation at Ventnor Fringe and to join a free trip to Brighton.
They are also looking for a Creative Projects Apprentice for a paid role to work with two of the Island’s leading cultural organisations on their live events.
£1,000 public art commission
The £1,000 public art commission has been created in collaboration with the IW Creative Network, for an outdoor art installation to be located in the tented fringe village at Ventnor Fringe.
This could be a sculpture, installation, performance, or interactive piece. As well as the £1,000 commission, you’ll also receive support from a professional mentor throughout your project.
You can apply for this commission via the Website.
Looking for something more long term?
The Creative Projects Apprenticeship is an 18 month placement, where you’ll be working between Ventnor Exchange and New Carnival, learning all about producing events. You’ll be working on major projects like Ventnor Fringe, and IW Mardi Gras.
You can apply for the apprenticeship here via the Website.
Just want to do something fun?
Brave Island is hosting a free trip to Brighton, where you’ll take part in a walking tour and visit an exhibition about the city’s rich LGBTQ+ history, as well as watching a show from the Brighton Fringe programme.
This is the perfect chance to have a fun day out doing something different and meet new people.
You can apply for this opportunity via the Website.
What is Brave Island?
Brave Island is a new type of online platform with other 300 members created by Ventnor Exchange to provide mentoring, funding, experiences and training for young people interested in the creative industries.
With regular posts each week, the site lists new opportunities to get involved, learn new skills, get free tickets to events or even paid jobs and commissions! It’s completely free to take part, and you only need to apply to whichever opportunities most appeal to you.
