It’s very sad to hear that two of the Victorian beach huts on Ventnor Beach have been damaged by vandals.
Jim Blake who runs the concession and his daughter, Sophie, have just spent the last two weeks bringing the beach huts back to the beach out of winter storage.
The huts are taken apart at the end of the season and rebuilt every year and were created from the original Victorian bathing huts. It’s thought they could possibly be the oldest surviving beach huts in the UK.
No witnesses to damage
Sophie told VB that two of the huts were broken into at the weekend and although nothing was stolen, the doors and locks suffered damage.
She said that Police told her they can’t really do much about the vandalism as there were no witnesses.
If you happen to notice people hanging around the beach huts at night, please keep an eye out. These beach huts are an important part of Ventnor’s history.
