As we mentioned yesterday, this week we have a pupil from Carisbrooke High School doing work experience at VentnorBlog.
Fifteen year old Emily Ladd will be working at the VB offices this week, getting a flavour of what goes on behind the scenes of an online news publication.
Emma was keen to come and work at VB as she’s considering a career in some aspect of journalism in the future.
Why work at VB?
She told us, “I’d like to be a journalist because it’s such a varied and interesting career, I’d like to get more experience and improve my writing skills, I think English is one of my strongest subjects and a career path with the subject involved would be a great idea. I can see that in journalism, work varies a lot, with no two days being the same. I think I would really enjoy being a Journalist and it would be a good job to have!”
Covering the NatWest Island Games
As well as the updates on the Island Games that Emma has already produced for VB, as she’s a keen sportswoman (she rows for Newport Rowing Club and plays for Shorwell netball team as well as for the school cricket, rounders and netball teams), she’ll be spending time at the NatWest Island Games tomorrow, following the action and reporting back to VB on Friday.
A conscientious pupil
Emily said that she tries to achieve the best she can in her GCSE subjects, making the most out of her time at school. She’s taking Geography, History, Full Course PE and Triple ICT … along with the core subjects; English, Maths and Double Science.
We’ve been impressed with Emily’s output over the last couple of days. She’s produced some good pieces in a short space of time and her enthusiasm for the job is fantastic to see.
