The new season of lectures by the Vectis Decorative and Fine Arts Society continues this week (Thursday 15th) with What the Dickens: The Life and Times of Charles Dickens by Jane Tapley.
The event celebrates Dickens’ bi-centenary year and discusses his influence on society today, 200 years after his birth.
Dickens was one of the first professional writers who quickly adapted to the new reading public. Fame, success, wealth and adulation brought him to the new reading public, but exposed his unconventional private life to public scrutiny.
The lecture takes place on Thursday 15th November at Medina Theatre. Tickets are available on the door.
See Events on the Wight for details of the entire season of lectures.
