The eleventh round of the Vectis Isle Pioneers mcc’s 2015-16 Championship was held at Haslett Farm, Shorwell, courtesy of Mr Glen Draper.
We would like to thank Glen for welcoming us back to this excellent venue. The course was set by Howard Jacobs and Calvin Wright. Between them they presented us with eight tight and technical sections – very well done to both of them. Thanks also to Christine Jacobs for keeping us all topped up with hot tea and Coffee in the chilly conditions, and for sorting the results – along with all those that helped clear up after the trial.
New members
We would like to welcome new members, Laura Milton, youngster, Oliver and Dad Justin Clayton. Oliver treated it as a bit of a practise session in preparation for next month when he intends to enter his first trial.
Youth riders
Alfie Haydon found things rather lonely in the Youth E class – but despite the lack of opposition, posted a really competitive score to earn himself another ten Championship points.
Kerry Jacobs, also riding unopposed, finished well in the Youth over eighty cc class, dropping just forty-five marks – well done to both. Jos Wright, with a blinding ride, finished with an impressive total of just forty-four to take the win in the Youth Expert class – excellent effort Jos.
Adult classes
Phil Silvester took the win in the Adult Beginners from Laura Milton in second – great effort by both.
The Novice class was headed up by Paul Kent with Wayne Brodie in second and Brian Brockwell in third. These three riders have been very close all season, just seven marks between them today.
Relative newcomer James Craven finished in fourth – I don’t think it will be much longer before James is knocking on the door for the top three places!
The Twin Shock class was convincingly won by Nick Symes finishing with a miserly fifteen marks. Calvin Wright did well however to finish in second spot with Stewart Freeman forced to settle in third place.
Stiff competition
The well contested Intermediate class was taken by Mark Coombes with a total of only fourteen. Andy Steele and Andy Scott Jackson were tied on seventeen – but second spot went to Andy Steele who notched up more cleans – great effort by all three riders.
Expert rider, Jim West, put in an inspiring performance finishing today with an amazing total of just four dropped marks. Brilliant effort Jim – fantastic riding!
