Vectis Isle Pioneers return to home of first trial on ten year anniversary

Wayne shares this latest report from the Vectis Pioneer Motorcycle Club. Ed

The Vectis Isle Pioneers Motorcycle Club kicked off its 2016/17 trials Championship on the Club’s tenth anniversary, back at Nodewell Farm, Totland – where the Club’s first ever trial was held in April 2006. The Club would like to thank the Morgan Family for the use of their land and for supporting the Club over the last ten years.

Ten year anniversary
Club President Calvin Wright began the day’s events with an impromptu speech, where he praised two of the Club’s founder members Howard and Christine Jacobs for all their hard work in setting up and running the Club over the years. Riders and helpers alike were treated to a rather large triple chocolate celebration cake, that didn’t last long, once the Chairman finally managed to blow out the candles!

Once again Howard presented us with eight tricky but flowing sections so many thanks to him. I would also like to thank Viki Taylor for capturing some brilliant images and to the Observer on sections four and five, Dave Allman – it was really good to see Dave back at a Club trial.

Youth classes
The Youth classes were headed up by Jos Wright (Youth Hard) Jos chose to ride his twin shock Yam on the hardest route. Well as is often the case with Jos he made things look really quite easy!

Jos finished on an excellent total of just twenty- two, very well done Jos. Matt Power, riding unopposed in the Youth Over 80cc class finished well to get his season off to a great start with ten Championship points. Harrison Crickmore and Alfie Haydon were involved in a real close contest (Youth Under 80cc class). Harrison did just enough on the day and finished just two marks ahead of Alfie – good effort by both. The Youth E class was convincingly won by Luke Snow from Dylan Wright in second – excellent effort lads.

Kerry Jacobs by Viki Taylor

Young Kerry Jacobs has now moved up from the Youth classes into the Adults. Kerry was taking no prisoners and rode a blinder to finish ahead of fellow Adult Beginner rider Phil Silvester. Only four marks between them, Kerry should be over the moon with his performance. John Townsend wrestled his Tiger Cub around the sections to take the British Bike class.

Meanwhile Scott Milton (Clubman class) also should be pleased with his score – Scott riding a mix of the C & B routes completed the trial for a miserly eleven dropped marks.

Mark Coombes by Viki Taylor

The well contested Novice class was eventually won by Wayne Brodie, just two marks separating him from second place rider Paul Kent with Ray Power in third. Wayne thought all was lost after he stalled his bike on section five incurring the maximum five point penalty to finish with a total of nine dropped marks.

Geoff Taylor by Viki Taylor

The Intermediate class proved to be the closest contest of the day, Mark Coombes and the ever improving Geoff Taylor were tied on twenty three – Mark was awarded the win scoring more cleans than Geoff. Malcolm Hawkins, despite being dumped over the handlebars on section eight carried on (without his front brake) to finish in a respectable third place.

The Club next meet again on May 15th. The venue is still to be confirmed – the full details will be available on the Club’s Website nearer the time.
