Thanks to Linda for news about a change to Ventnor Arts Club screenings later this month. Ed
Ventnor Film Society is pleased to announce an additional afternoon screening for the acclaimed new French film, Thérèse Desqueyroux on Tuesday 29th October.
Since moving our venue to Ventnor Arts Club, we have seen our audience numbers rise and our French films are always very popular.
Two screenings
So we have decided to screen this film at 3pm as well as the usual 7.30pm, especially as it’s half-term week when extra visitors will be in town.
The film is an adaptation of the classic novel by François Mauriac, and as it is a 12A, it may also appeal to A Level French students, although it is subtitled in English.
Set in In 1926, Thérèse, a wealthy landowner, makes a marriage of convenience with Bernard, owner of another of the vast pine forest estates of the Landes region in south-west France. At first she enjoys the affluent lifestyle, but she soon feels suffocated by her conventional new family, and longs for the bohemian world of Paris. An accidental event suggests an escape route that will lead her to the criminal courts. This is a finely acted period drama, filmed with a real feel for the region and its time.
How to book
As always, Ventnor Film Society films are open to everyone; there is no need to be a member of the Arts Club to attend.
Entrance is £5 on the door but booking is advisable. To book a place, please email [email protected].
We’d love to know if people would be interested in regular afternoon showings – please let us know!
