It’s that time of year again … time to get your fingers sticky with tissue paper and wall paper paste and start creating your lanterns for the grand Ventnor Lantern Procession.
Thanks to Alison for sending through all the info below … the masterclass sounds brilliant – all of the larger ones from last year were pretty spectacular.
The date for this years lantern procession is Tuesday 19th December at 6pm. Lantern making workshops are beginning soon, so please come and make a lantern and join in this years event.
Ventnor Community Projects are organising the workshops and the procession which will finish in the park this year where Ventnor Enhancement Fund are hosting Carols in the Park with Shanklin Brass Band, mulled wine and mince pies (and Father Christmas is hoping to be there too).
Lantern Making Workshops are being held at The Youth Centre, Victoria Street on Saturdays 11th, 18th and 25th November from 10am — 3pm. You don’t need to come to all 3 sessions — you should be able to complete a lantern in 1 session or 2 half sessions at most. If you have a lantern at home from last year, then you could bring it along for a make-over instead of starting from scratch. The cost is only £3 per lantern and the workshops are open to adults on their own or working with their children (no unaccompanied children, please).
Also this year, the Arts Unit of the IW Council, (as part of the Neighbourhood Learning in Ventnor project), is funding a Lantern Masterclass. This is again at the Youth Club, on Saturday and Sunday 9th and 10th December from 10am — 4pm. This is to make larger, battery powered lanterns for the procession and is for adults only. You do need some previous experience of working with willow to do this workshop e.g. you made a lantern last year.
Please phone Alison to book a place or for more information: 823826 or 07976 009414.
Hope lots of you can come along and make the event a real success.
