Thanks to Evelyn from the Friends for this report. Ed
Friends of Ventnor Library (FVL) took the opportunity to say ‘bye for now’ to Tess Jessop on her retirement from Ventnor Library. Saturday the 7th was the Library Fair day and it was a double celebration for Tess, being her birthday, so cakes and gifts were the order of the day.
The Friends have worked with Tess throughout the birth and development of the FVL project. We relied on her for always giving wise advice, proposing activities that would interest her readers, and guiding us through any difficulties. We shall miss her, but appreciate the fact that she is still part of Ventnor and is a member of FVL.
She was kind enough to send a message to us after the Fair saying how much she had enjoyed the day and went on to say,
“I have always believed that a publicly funded Library, run by trained staff is a pre-requisite for a civilised society. We lose them at our peril.”
I am sure that we all heartily agree with that point of view. We have already lost too much on the Island.
The Fair was a lovely send off for her with lots of bell-ringers, tombola, Hamper raffle and a brilliant display of craftwork of all kinds plus cake.
A day to remember.
