Incase you didn’t know, the musical talent based here in sunny Ventnor doesn’t end just with the musicians. We can also boast our very own record label.
Match My Foot Records have been knocking around for quite some time now and are responsible for, amongst other things, taking the masterwork of Ergo Phizmiz and stamping it onto beautiful black vinyl. They’ve recently revamped their Website and it’s looking scwheet as.
The ‘store’ has a bonkers selection of CDs and vinyl, and the stock is growing every week. From Caberet Voltaire to Dinosaur Jr and Leopards of Mass Destruction to a great selection of Studio One monsters, there’s “something for everyone”. Rumour has it that shop premises are being sought, but until that time, their records can be found in Revolver (Ryde), Wight Star (Newport), Kitsch 22 (Newport), and the Ventnorian.
Those generous chaps also have provided a whole host of free downloads. There’s an eclectic choice of tunes for your aural pleasure. The WOZWORLD collection being my current favourite.
If all that wasn’t enough, MMF are also responsible (with the help of Ergo Phizmiz) for organising what looks to be one of the best gigs of the year – Damo Suzuki Network. For those old enough (or into music from the good old days), you might remember Damo Suzuki for his contribution in the early 70s to the German band, Can. He has been on a never ending tour since the 80s and is going to bless our wonderful isle with his presence on 23rd November at Ryde Theatre. This will be a concert like no other and we recommend that you get your tickets fast as they are sure to sell out pretty soon.
Working through the MMF site, there’s also some pretty interesting artwork in the MMF Design Project. I’m not sure who these were produced by (was it a comp?) or how they’re going to be used? But they look good all the same.
