More details to come on World Book night in due course (including details of a party at Waterstone’s), but in the meantime, here’s more from Ventnor resident Bob Bowden. Ed
The UK is set to join in a world-wide campaign to encourage more people to read and enjoy books, which manifests itself in World Book Night on Saturday 5th March 2011.
On this day one million books will be given away free by 20,000 selected participants – one of which lives in Ventnor.
The Spy Who Came in from the Cold
Bob Bowden, a relative newcomer to the town having moved here in 2010, has been selected to give away 48 copies of John Le Carré’s ‘The Spy Who Came in from the Cold’.
The organisers have had one million copies of 25 selected books specially printed for this mass giveaway event – all set for distribution on the same day.
Bob will be using the Josiah Tempest shop located at the West end of the Esplanade as a base to give out these books, starting from 12noon on Saturday 5th March and lasting as long as demand dictates.
There are no catches and no costs involved – just come along and take away a copy of this book, while stocks last.
This national event will receive broad TV and other coverage, including a special programme on BBC2 that evening – so come along to participate and take away your free book to enjoy.
