Many thanks to Evelyn for this report from the Ventnor Town Council. Ed
The opening question from a member of the public at Monday’s Ventnor Town Council (VTC) meeting was,
“Why were the toilets at the bottom of the Esplanade closed over the Bank Holiday weekend. Our busiest weekend in the calendar?”
The answer seemed to be something like Chinese whispers! Messages were relayed from one to another and the result was nothing was done.
Considering there are only two toilets in the town, each of them needing a qualification in mountaineering, this must have added considerable problems for all our visitors. The IW County Council needs to properly apologise to the Town.
The Community Bus
Due to illness, there needs to be some future planning to maintain the No.31 bus service.
The Town Council is carefully considering all possibilities and is aware of the importance of the service for those who have no alternative transport, particularly in Bonchurch and St Lawrence. It remains under discussion.
Salisbury Gardens (Coastal Centre)
The councillors have shared plans on how the building could be used if successful in their application to the IOW Council.
Community usage; training projects; business start-ups and other ideas. However, as Cllr Toogood emphasised, “There is a lot of work to prepare.”
Ventnor Carnival Association
The Ventnor Carnival Association has applied to the Town Council for financial help to provide a carnival for 2014.
The council is awaiting copies of VCA’s recent accounts, and a decision will be made at the council meeting of December 9th when 2014/15 precept is discussed.
Other news
The Town Councillors expressed their sincere thanks to the Ventnor Fringe, praising their hard work and the quality of their production.
Jackie and Richard Tiller will take over the Putting Green and café from October 1st making the most of any good weather we might have.
The Paddling pool closes on 29th September 2013 until next year.

Other groups attending will be Friends of Ventnor Library, Ventnor and Undercliff Heritage Project and Friends of St Catherine’s. All are welcome and there will be something of interest for everyone.
