We’ve just spoken to someone called Sebastian, one of the people inside Vestas, to get an update.
The first point he made was that no-one in the management at Vestas will speak to them.
They also stressed that it was a peaceful protest and that no damage had occurred to the building.
Earlier today, one of their supporters on the outside had passed some food to them in a bag when those on the balcony had thrown a rope down. They said that food is going quickly, but they have plenty of water and coffee.
There are vending machines on the floor too, but the protesters don’t have any money left, so aren’t able to eat it (shows how peaceful the protest is, that they not breaking into for the food).
Occupying the top floor
We had heard rumours from the people at gate of Vestas that the protesters had been moved into a single room.
Sebastian made it clear that this wasn’t the case and they still ‘controlled’ the offices on the upper floor either side on the entrance, including the directors and general managers offices.
All of the doors have been secured, but one fire exit has been left accessible in case any of the protesters want to leave.
Police
We asked about the police, as rumours were that riot poilce were inside the building.
Sebastian confirmed that police inside the building were dressed in riot gear (those outside are just wearing normal uniforms).
We spoke to one of the BBC reporters who said that the official word from the police was that they had a ‘specialist unit’ inside the building, who were wearing riot gear, but that they weren’t riot police.
Those inside protesting said they felt the police that were here probably had better things to do with their time.
Sebastian stressed many times that the people in the building had nothing but good intentions, wanting to draw attention to their plight.
His finishing words: “Spirits are high in here. We won’t give up.”
