Visioneca (Visi-on-eka): Festival of Experimental Film and Media

Visioneca (Visi-on-eka) – a Festival of Experimental Film and Media comes to Freshwater Bay House, Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight on 27th and 28th October 2012.

Showing new motion pictures from the digital generation – exploring the developing future of media arts.

A different sort of film festival
Visioneca will not be like any of the other film festivals in the UK. We won’t be showing new features or Hollywood blockbusters, or even typical art cinema shorts.

We won’t be screening conventional narrative films derived from books or theatre.

What we will be showing is a selection of the most exciting experimental motion picture work being produced around the planet.

We will be introducing and contextualising this work, and inspiring our audience with it’s diversity.

Come and be entertained and inspired!

Background on the festival
As new technologies continue to change our world, and how we perceive it, artists explore new means of expression, of communicating ideas, emotions, new ways of engaging their audience and new ways of telling stories.

Visioneca will be showcasing independent filmic arts from around 60 different artists, designers, developers and directors – short films, games, interactive art, augmented realities, virtual realities, 360-degree panoramas, projection-mapping, animation, performance and special effects.

The work selected for screening provides an essential overview and insight into this commercially important and inspirational world of new digital arts.

Exploring the back-story
On the Sunday we will also be exploring the back-story and context of experimental film, with illustrated informal seminars on the U.S. counter culture, experimental works from the early history of film, and on how the documentary film is changing as it accommodates and exploits new media.
