Nat shares this latest news from Ryde Academy. Ed
Back in March, Ryde Academy held a MUFTI day to raise funds for their House charities, but also in aid of World Water Day.
This is an international observance and an opportunity for students to learn more about water related issues, be inspired to tell others and take action to make a difference.
Island-based charity
The Roll out the Barrel Trust, an Island based charity, addresses the problem of transporting water. The Trust’s ambition is to distribute barrels into communities in East Africa to stop women and children carrying up to 20 kilos over considerable distances.
Students and staff wore blue to represent water and raised £143.15 for the charity. Ryde Academy’s Head Girl, Kaitlyn Croxall, handed over the cheque to Adrian from the Trust.
Donations make such a difference
Adrian, Trust CEO, said,
“This generous and spontaneous gift from the students will provide six rotary barrels or four water filters and through our match funding program this will be doubled.
“This is a gift to women and children in Kasozi, Uganda and will be delivered in days. It makes such a difference to communities where everyday is Water Day.”
