Neal and Penny Staley:

Your vote could help this Island family struck by tragedy

Neal and Penny Staley’s ten year old daughter, Evey, was tragically killed when their car was hit by a driver who had been drinking in 2012.

Evey’s parents sustained life threatening injuries themselves in the collision and whilst his wife was in a coma, Neal had the painful task of having to make the decision to turn off Evey’s life support.

Unsung heroes
The family have been shortlisted to win a break in the Yorkshire Dales with holiday lettings company, Cottage Holidays. A campaign to help them win as many votes as possible is gathering pace on Facebook.

The voting page on the Cottage Holidays’ Website reads,

Neal’s ten year old daughter, Evey, was killed by a drunk and drugged driver, two years ago. With his wife in an induced coma, he had to make the toughest decision of his life: to turn off Evey’s life support the day after the accident.

He also gave permission for Evey’s organs to be donated to six people, including an 18 month old little girl who received Evey’s heart. Neal and his wife have slowly recovered physically, but Neal has been medically discharged from his job in the RAF due to the injuries he sustained in the crash.

Since then he and his wife Penny have tried to gain something positive from their loss by starting the “Isle Drive Safe – Remember Evey” campaign, which educates drivers in the dangers of driving whilst under the influence of drink and drugs.

This family’s strength and courage over the last two years certainly deserves recognition and a long overdue holiday for them and their other daughter, Ellie, who has remained strong and the family’s rock despite witnessing the accident and, losing her little sister.

Vote now, voting closes midnight Sunday 22 February
