We absolutely love this time lapse video of Walk The Wight, taken by Tim Pritchard (aka Tippers) last Sunday. Thanks Tim for sending through yesterday along with a write up of his experience. In his own words. Ed
If you’re an Islander that doesn’t know what the Walk the Wight is all about then you must have been hiding under a rock!
For those maybe not from the Island or unaware of it, Walk the Wight is an annual trek from one end of the Island to the other.
Raising money for the Island’s only Hospice
Encompassing 26 miles of rocky terrain, forests, roads, beautiful scenery and many many hills, the walk has grown in popularity since its conception in 1991 and now has over 10,000 entrants each year.
The walk is to raise money for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and raises hundreds of thousands every year.
Fantastic weather all day
We were very lucky with the weather this year with bright hot sun all day (I’ve got the sunburn to prove it!) which really helped with the time lapse.
If it had started raining then I would have had to abandon. I did get some funny looks whilst walking around, hopefully now people will realise what I was up to, taking 1000s of photos of random numbers.
The Time Lapse was a bit of an experiment and I really wasn’t sure whether it would work or not, I must admit I’m very happy with the results.
Music by Greg Lakin
The music was done by Greg Lakin – Greg produces electronic dance music under the name Codec Shift (available on iTunes/beatport), as well as musical commissions to whatever spec you have.
Get in touch via twitter @greglakin or @codecshift (I recommend to listen through headphones!).
I will give a big shout out to walk walking companions, my wife, Josie and our friends Rich and Roger.
Roger to the rescue
By Arreton Village (about six or seven miles in), Richard’s feet were already blistered with blood in his socks due to a new pair of walking shoes.
Luckily Roger, ex military, had a special first aid kit on hand to get him patched up.
The fact that Rich managed to finish is testament to his spirit; I however put this down to the fact he was in his self claimed ‘Redgrave Year’ (his 5th walk in a row).
Roger hit some troubles towards the end having recently had back surgery but we slowly but surely made it.
In a Redgrave moment myself, I say this every year – “I’m never doing this again”; now my feet are rested and recovered, see you there in 12 months.
