Walk the Wight

Walk the Wight takes place annually in May on the Isle of Wight and attracts over ten thousand people, all taking part to raise funds for Mountbatten.

Over the years Walk the Wight has evolved to match the capabilities of those talking place into different walks:-

  • * Main Walk – Split into two stages: The initial 12.5 mile stretch between the start at Bembridge to the checkpoint at Carisbrooke and a 14 mile stomp from Carisbrooke to the finish at Alum Bay. The overall distance is 26.5 miles, Bembridge to the Needles, that takes in some trails and private land that are closed to the public for the rest of the year.
  • * Flat Walk – approximately 8 miles long walk from Sandown Bay Academy to Thompson’s Trees, Shide. An excellent introduction to Walk the Wight for families and other people who may not be comfortable taking on the hills of the main walk.
  • * Schools Walk the Wight – This breaks down the 26.5 miles of the main walk into manageable chunks that are walked over a period of time leading up to the main May event. In 2013 over 50 schools and 2,000 pupils took part.
