Well done to all the people who are taking part in the 72 mile challenge over six days for local charity Breathe Easy.
Last weekend saw the first leg of the challenge which involves walking up to 72 miles round the Island spread over six days and two weekends, March 29th – 31st and April 5th – 7th in a group that will start at 10am each day.
Bestival tickets an incentive
Anne Procter from Breathe Easy has told OnTheWight that Rob da Bank has donated two Bestival tickets which will be awarded to the person who raises the most money.
Lauren and Sally Sturmey say, “We taking part in this walk. Our grandmother has emphysema and we are amazed at the difference in her health since she became involved with Breathe Easy. The chance to win tickets to the Bestival is an added bonus!”
As readers will remember, Breathe Easy was adopted by Sainsbury’s as their charity of the year and as well as giving the group much needed publicity and helping them to raise funds, some of their staff members are also taking part in the walk.
About Breathe Easy
Anne tells us that one in six people on the Island suffer from some kind of respiratory problem and Breathe Easy was started in 2000 with the aim of offering help and advice to any Islander who has anything from childhood asthma to the more serious diseases such as emphysema.
The social group meets every second Friday at 2pm in the Respiratory Department of the hospital and these are also run in conjunction with exercise classes.
All money raised will be used to purchase equipment for the respiratory department and to further the work that they do.
Donations can be sent to Andy Savage at the Respiratory Department, and any cheques should be made out to ‘Breathe Easy Isle of Wight’.
