The 64th Isle of Wight Pier to Pier Swim race is taking place today, Saturday 15th August.
The start will be at 1pm from the beach alongside Sandown Pier and ends at the site of the old Shanklin Pier.
A distance of two miles across the bay, that will take between 25 mins and an hour to complete.
There are 110 entrants from all over the UK, but this year there is an increase in Island and younger swimmers.
The oldest entrant is 80 years old.
The Safety of the swimmers is managed by the Sandown Inshore LIfeboat team assisted by Ryde Inshore Lifeboat, the Shanklin Deep Sea Fisherman, and around 30 kayak and canoeists managed by the Isle of Wight Kayak Club.
Presentations will be made at the Shanklin Sandown Powing Club house.
