Water rising through carriageway results in emergency closure and diversions

Diversions are in place in Newchurch following damage to the road surface due to ‘water coming up through the carriageway’.

Island Roads have instigated an emergency closure of the road whilst they carry our urgent repairs to the carriageway.

They say,

High Street / The Shute / Langbridge will be closed to through traffic from Palmers Lane and Mersley Lane between approx. 10am until 4pm on Tuesday 18 November 2014 for urgent carriageway repair works by Island Roads.

The works are located at the bottom of The Shute, near to Newchurch Bridge.

It is hoped that the road will only be closed for a short period to undertake the repair works.

Diversion Route: Winford Road, Watery Lane, A3056 Hale Common, Arreton Street, Downend Road, Mersley Down Road, Knighton Shute and Knighton Lane.

Update 2.44
Island Roads say,

“High Street / The Shute / Langbridge is now open to through traffic from Palmers Lane to Mersley Lane, following the completion of urgent carriageway repair works by Island Roads at 2.30pm today.”
