Anticipation has been high for the release of Wet Leg’s self-titled debut album, which is due out this Friday (8th April). The band must be over the moon with the ever-growing collection of upbeat and positive album reviews.
‘Wet Leg’ has been getting some insanely good reviews over the last few days with NME giving the album a whopping five stars, whilst from across the pond have come rave reviews from the likes of the New York Times and the New Yorker.
The Isle of Wight duo’s – Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers – great sense of humour is understood and praised by the likes of Lauren Mayberry of Chvrches, who told NY Times how rare it was for women to be allowed to have a sense of humor in their music, adding that it’s another thing she loves about the band.
9/10 from Riot
Charlie Brock from Riot Magazine didn’t hold back his love for the new album, calling it “a stunner” and giving it 9/10. He said,
“The pair are fun, interesting and absurd: combined with big, meaty choruses, infectious riffs and lyrical content that satirises the state of the world and the people in it, Wet Leg are on to a winner.”
Meanwhile, Uncut Magazine gave the album a fabulous 8/10, gushing,
“This album is an unashamedly goofy celebration of fun, sex and romance, but also a bittersweet commentary on the price of pleasure, the cruel downside of love and the trials of being twentysomething women in 21st-century Britain.”
Kitty Empire in The Guardian gave it Album of the Week, but was less enthused than others, scoring it at 3/5. Perhaps not everyone gets it.
More accolades
As the band’s releases rack up over 40 million streams and over nine million views on YouTube, last week Luckbox named Wet Leg “Best New Artist at SXSW”.
Added to that, Wet Leg have been confirmed for the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekender and added their prestigious BBC Brit List.
