If you followed our advice from last week – to set a YouTube reminder for Monday night to see the premiere of Wet Leg’s latest single “Ur Mum” – then you are one of more than 185,000 people who have now seen the video in the 48 hours it’s been available.
Earlier today Wet Leg’s Ur Mum was the 15th highest trending video on YouTube in the UK – not just music.
Another smasher
As with each and every other track they’ve released since signing to Domino Records last year, the duo from the Isle of Wight have pulled it off yet again.
Ur Mum is crammed full of inside jokes and not-so-subtle putdowns of a certain former boyfriend. An almost-instant ear worm, after listening to the track, you’ll soon be practicing your longest and loudest scream.
Directed by Lava La Rue
Styled by the brilliant Emma Lipop – giving the girls their very own Angelica’s supermarket uniforms – this latest offering from Wet Leg was directed by highly lauded visual artist and rapper, Lava La Rue.
If you were watching the comments on the You Tube live premiere on Monday you’ll have seen Lava La Rue bigging up the band, who they spent Christmas on the Island with prior to making the music video.
Explaining on their Instagram feed, Lava La Rue said,
“For the past couple of months I’ve been working on this brit teen-comedy style music video for my good pals Wet Leg, who after many pints – invited me to their home that is the Isle of Wight to meet their adopted llama called wet leg.
“Ended up spending Xmas on the IW with these hilarious lil rockstars only to realise every day I spent with them felt like a never ending episode of Napoleon Dynamite… If it was set in a rural British Isle. Thus the idea of the Ur Mum visual world was born.
“Every detail, costume embroidery, products on the shelf, print on the paper, posters on the wall – it’s all clues to the wider album world… Something visually I’ve wanted to do for a band for a very long time.
“Eternally thankful to the WL crew for giving me full creative control, from storyboarding right to assembling my absolute dream team powerhouse matriarchal film crew.”
