Back for its third year, the Wight Wheels Cycle Challenge is a fun, friendly and free cycling competition between local workplaces.
The initiative is designed to get more people cycling on the Island and it takes place between Monday 11 June and Sunday 1 July.
Staff members ride anywhere and anytime – it doesn’t have to be to work – and log their trips on the website.
Distances tracked on Website
Collectively each team will be clocking up the miles equivalent to cycling to Calais, Paris, Lausanne (Lake Geneva), Rome, Athens or Cairo – progress will be tracked on a digital map of the world on the Website.
Encourage more team members
The target destination is dependent on number of staff at the company. At the same time, teams will need to get as many members of staff who don’t normally cycle to jump on a bike and go for a ride.
Previous years have seen over 80 employers big and small take part and around 1500 people logging their trips. It’s lots of fun and helps foster a great team spirit at work – it’s even possible for different departments to compete with each other.
Prizes galore
There are lots of prizes to be won for those who take part and for staff who may not have access to a bike or haven’t been on one for a while, there’s free bike loans and low cost cycle training available.
Any local employer with three staff or more can get involved. For free registration or to find out more go to: www.wightwheelschallenge.org.uk
