As if travelling around in the snow wasn’t hard enough already, the Wightlink Fastcat has been struck down.
We’ve had a number of reports from people who have attempted to use it this evening (Wed), only it hear that the gangplank at Ryde was out of action.
Given it stops people getting on and off the Fastcat, it’s a bit of a problem.
Passengers were being told that it’s going to be ‘indefinite’, but we’ll check with Wightlink and let you know when we hear back. In the meantime, we’re told that passengers were advised to take the car ferry instead.
Official confirmation from WightLink once we get it.
Update 2.12.10
This in from WightLink this morning.
“The gangway was in the process of being lifted off the vessel late yesterday afternoon, however a wash from a passing vessel caused the Wight Ryder to roll as the gangway was being removed, which resulted in the ‘latch fingers’ on the gangway being damaged – please note that the gangway is not faulty.
We are using a temporary gangway whilst the damage is being repaired. There is no disruption to service and all sailings are running as scheduled – despite the snow.”
