It’s been a bit of a music day today – that’s sometimes just how it works out. Here’s news of another live event coming up. Ed
Quay Arts in association with UK Entertainment Channel present Sleeping Dogz with Wild Willy Barrett.
Sleeping Dogz featuring Wild Willy Barrett along with Mary Holland and John Devine play a fun mixture of music styles ranging from toe-tapping, foot-stomping fiddle and banjo, lively Irish jigs and reels on the pipes, to haunting melodies on guitar, cello and flute – all presented with a large dose of wry humour!
Willy Barrett is one of the most accomplished multi-instrumentalists working today, playing acoustic classical guitar with an original style and virtuosity
few could match.
Sleeping Dogz are quite simply great entertainment for all ages and highly accomplished musicians to boot!
Willy Barrett plays acoustic guitar, slide guitar, fiddle, banjo and balalaika. Barrett is best known for his early success with John Otway in the 70’s when they rocked the UK with their hit ‘cor baby that’s really free’ but his versatility as an accomplished musician sees Willy Barrett as the band leader with the inimitable Sleeping Dogz!
Mary Holland plays on cello, harmonium and percussion. Since appearing as a child in the screen production of Bugsy Malone, Mary has moved on to such diverse activities as playing cello with an Egyptian bellydance troupe and drumming with a touring Samba band. Just don’t ask her to bellydance!
John Devine plays uilleann pipes, whistles, harmonium and percussion. Coming from an Irish traditional background with contemporary influences, John’s original style allows his soul to shine through in his playing.
He has his roots firmly fixed in his Irish heritage and works to keep the Celtic aural tradition alive and kicking.
What others have said:
“Welcome to the beguiling, hilarious, delightful world of Sleeping Dogz….
Craziness, underwritten by some great, nicely individual acoustic music.”
