This charity event is just over a week away. The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust tell us more. Ed
The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust are pleased to announce that long term Trust ambassador and Bestival curator, Rob da Bank, will be opening their event, the Red Funnel Night Rider and Night Runner, with one of his highly regarded DJ sets at Cheverton Farm, Isle of Wight, on the 16th April.
The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust will receive all the money raised from entry fees, thanks to the generosity of Red Funnel’s support, which will allow them to give young people in recovery from cancer the opportunity to take part in sailing trips to rebuild their confidence.
Frank Fletcher CEO of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust commented,
“We are extremely pleased to announce our long term ambassador Rob da Bank will be opening the Red Funnel Night Rider and Night Runner.
“It will be fantastic to have him at the start line gearing our participants up ready for the event!”
Cycle or run
Managed by Isle of Wight based trail experts GP Sport on behalf of the Trust, the event offers mountain bikers and runners of all abilities a variety of night trails ranging from 5km – 20km distances for runners, and 5km – 35km for the mountain bikers.
Participants from all over the UK are encouraged to join with easy transport connections available from Southampton to the Isle of Wight through redfunnel.co.uk and public bus links on to the event.
Warm-up set from Radio1 DJ
Participants and their supporters will be able to enjoy Rob’s set as they warm up for an hour, before the races start at 8pm; for those not competing, Race Village tickets are available at £5.
The adventure doesn’t stop at the end of the race with camping facilities available on the event site alongside after party entertainment including live music, food and drink all available until late.
Rob, who first became involved with the Trust in 2003, expressed his delight on the announcement,
“I love music and running so I can’t wait to support this fantastic new event on the Isle of Wight, and help to raise more funds for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.
“See you all on the start-line! Don’t be late!”
Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust
The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is a national organisation which was set up 13 years ago to give young people, aged 8 – 24, in recovery from cancer, the opportunity to take part in sailing trips to rebuild their confidence.
The Trust builds long term relationships through the Return to Sail and Graduate Volunteer programs working with every young person Principal Treatment Centre and a growing number of Designated Units in the UK. To date it has enabled over 1,500 young people to take part in sailing trips.
The Trust receives no government funding and therefore relies entirely on voluntary donations to provide sailing trips free of charge to the young people.
