‘Winter is Coming’: 15+ groups unite at the Newport event to help Islanders brace for winter

Now in its fifth year, the annual ‘Winter is Coming’ event, sees hundreds of Islanders receive help.

Set up by Isle of Wight fuel poverty charity, the Footprint Trust, the event focuses on saving money for local people and providing guidance to improve wellbeing and resilience. Having run successfully at the Riverside Centre, Newport, in previous years, this year’s event promises an even bigger range of support for old and young.

What to expect
At the upcoming winter aid event, people will have the opportunity to speak directly with various local help organisations.

These groups provide support in key areas such as energy assistance, food aid and housing resources. Experts will be available to offer guidance on benefits, healthcare services, and employment skills.

Families and children can also find tailored support, with organisations dedicated to their specific needs. Whether Islanders need advice on managing bills, securing food, or accessing community services, this event is designed to connect the community with the right resources to help through the winter months.

Stichbury: We must work together to give the best support we can
Footprint Trust manager, Laura Stichbury, says,

“In bringing together a range of local groups at Winter is Coming, we can give our community the best opportunity to thrive.

“This year’s high costs and limited financial help has presented a real challenge to people. Agencies across the Island must work together to give the best support we can.

“We are delighted to have over 15 brilliant local groups who are able to practically help Islanders in a ‘one stop shop’ event on the 23rd October.”
